Ultra-Lox™ Powders

Eminess Technologies offers two different lines of aluminum oxide powders; the R and M lines. These powders were developed primary for the metallography and precision optics industries and are 99.99% pure.

Ultra-Lox™ R Standard Alumina Powders

This series of powders is ideal for less stringent polishing applications where a totally scratch-free surface is not necessary. They have the unique ability to break down during the polishing process to produce nicely polished surfaces, but with a coarser surface roughness than that which can be obtained with the Ultra-Lox™ M powder series.

Ultra-Lox™ M Agglomerate-Free Alumina Powders

The agglomerate-free or M line of the Ultra-Lox™ powders are R powders that have been subjected to a proprietary process wherein most of the larger agglomerates have been broken down. This powder is for polishing applications where the R powder produces too many scratches or there is a need of a better final surface quality.

NOTE ON DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE R AND M SERIES POWDERS: In both the R and M series, the size of the alumina particles is called the "Functional Particle Size". In the R series, these particles can agglomerate into larger particles. Under most standard polishing pressures, most of these larger agglomerate particles will be broken down into their functional particle sizes. In the M series, a proprietary process is applied so that most of these agglomerate particles will be broken down to their functional particle size prior to the polishing process.

Standard Powder Agglomerate-Free Powder Surface Area (m²/g) Functional Particle Size (µm)
R5 M5 3.5-6.5 1.0
R15 M15 13-17 0.3
R25 M25 25-31 0.1
R100 M100 >100 0.05
These values represent typical measurements. Actual values may vary in a range defined by product specifications.
